HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc44-5W
80. Sir T. Moore

asked the Minister of Works for what purpose the present reconstruction in the terrace houses in Regent's Park is being carried out; and whether it is temporary or permanent.

Mr. Tomlinson

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer I gave on 9th April to the hon. Member for Hertford (Mr. Walker-Smith), of which I am sending him a copy.

95. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Works if the contracts for the alterations to the houses and terraces in Regent's Park are being carried out on a cost plus basis; and what is the final estimated cost of these alterations, expressed in pounds, spent per civil servant to be employed in these buildings.

Mr. Tomlinson

No, Sir. Contracts for the preparation of houses in Regent's Park for use as Government offices were let after limited competition based on bills of quantities. The estimated cost of the work averages £112 per head of staff to be accommodated in these buildings. Although a large proportion of the work involved covers repair of war damage, and the making good of subsequent deterioration, the cost of the resulting accommodation compares favourably with that provided by any other means.
