HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc73-4W
Group-Captain Wilcock

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that a cargo of canary seed was unloaded at Liverpool recently, but instead of being distributed to.bird fanciers in this country was reloaded and shipped to Dublin: and if he will make a statement thereon

Sir B. Smith

A parcel of canary seed was recently trans-shipped at Liverpool for Dublin Since the goods were in transit and were presumably the property of some person outside the United Kingdom they were not available for distribution here. Trans-shipment of parcels of all types of commodities is a practice regularly adopted in commercial transactions when there is no steamer sailing direct from the loading port overseas to the final destination.
