HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c60W
119. Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if the vacancies for male students in agricultural colleges in Scotland are adequate to meet the applications received from prospective students.

Mr. Westwood

In accordance with general Government policy on admissions to universities and similar institutions the Department of Agriculture for Scotland have asked the agricultural colleges when considering applications for admission to college courses in the session 1946–47 to give priority up to 1st July, 1946, to ex-Service men and women applicants. The colleges agreed to do so, and the present position is that for 180 estimated vacancies 78 applications have been received from ex-Service candidates and 103 from other candidates. Even although many additional applications may be expected before the opening of the session it does not appear likely that there will be any difficulty in accepting all the qualified ex-Service applicants.
