HC Deb 16 May 1946 vol 422 c272W
Captain Noel-Baker

asked the Minister of Labour why, in view of the fact that the Ministry of Works recommended, on 30th March, the release under Class B of T/14696092 Driver A. R. Smith, this release has been rejected by his Department.

Mr. Isaacs:

The application for the release of Driver A. R. Smith in Class B under the individual specialist procedure was rejected because this young man, who was 19 years of age when he joined the Forces in 1944 and had previously been employed as a labourer and lorry driver, could not be regarded as a key specialist whose services were personally indispensable to enable urgent work of national importance to be carried out.
