HC Deb 16 May 1946 vol 422 cc272-3W
Mr. King

asked the Minister of Labour in what special circumstances a boy directed to the mines can be accepted as a volunteer for service in the Armed Forces.

Mr. Isaacs:

Young men directed to work in coal mines as an alternative to call up under the National Service Acts are not accepted as volunteers in the Armed Forces so long as they can be employed usefully underground in the coal mines.
