HC Deb 16 May 1946 vol 422 cc271-2W
Mr. Corlett

asked the Minister of Labour how many third class officers entered his Department on the result of the competitions for third class officer in each of the years 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939; how many of these officers are still attached to his Department; and what is the present annual salary, including any bonus, payable to each of the officers coming under paragraph (5).

Mr. Isaacs:

During the years 1935–39 the number of third class officers entering my Department by open competitive examination was: 1935, 6; 1936, 10; 1937, 3; 1938, 8; 1939, 21. Forty-five are still attached to my Department, but are not necessarily serving in their original grade. I do not understand my hon. Friend's reference to "paragraph 5," but the salary scales for the third class officer grade are: Men, £220–£552 per annum, plus consolidated addition varying from £78 to £90 per annum; Women, £220–£445 per annum, plus consolidated addition varying from £63 to £72 per annum.
