HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 cc235-6W
96. Mr. Edelman

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that the Lido cafe, a dancing and swing music establishment on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, belongs to a German Nazi, named Grossmann, who fled to Germany at the outbreak of war; that the property is at present administered by the Government custodian of enemy property through Arab managers; and whether he will end this offence to good taste and religious sentiment.

Mr. George Hall:

The establishment to which my hon. Friend refers belonged to a German Christian named Grossman who fled to Germany before the outbreak of war. It is now leased by an Armenian company. I have noted the statement in the Report of the Anglo-American Committee that this establishment offends the sensibilities of many Christian people and I have already been in communication with the High Commissioner, who is giving the matter his personal attention.
