HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 c234W
93. Colonel Wheatley

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the speech by the Governor of Nigeria in the budget session of the Legislative Council commenting on the irresponsible conduct of the local Press; and what steps he proposes to take to correct misrepresentations of Government policy in Nigeria.

Mr. George Hall:

My attention has been called to this speech. The Nigerian Government is fully alive to the need for ensuring that the people of the country are informed about Government policy and that misrepresentations are corrected. Many channels of publicity for this purpose are being developed, including Press conferences, information centres, lectures, cinema displays, and so on.
