HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 c231W
90. Mr. Spearman

asked the President of the Board of Trade why his Department refuse licences for the import of jeeps from the Continent, which, subject to a permit, can be bought in sterling from the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Belcher:

In cases of the kind referred to by the hon. Member, import licences are refused on exchange grounds. Payment made in sterling in the United Kingdom to representatives of the United States Government is equivalent to payment in dollars.
