HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 c233W
16. Mrs. Middleton

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give an assurance that the proposed new appointments in the Labour Department in Kenya will be made from people who have a thorough knowledge and experience of working-class organisations.

Mr. George Hall:

It is my intention in making appointments to Colonial Labour Departments to pay full regard to the qualifications mentioned by my hon. Friend. One trade unionist has already been selected for the Kenya Labour Department as recommended by my Labour Adviser, and another for the Railway. In Colonial conditions, however, it will be necessary for some time to provide also for the appointment of officers with direct and intimate knowledge of the local peoples.
