HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c192W
136 and 137. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Labour (1) how many vocational training centres were operating by the end of April, 1946; how many students were attending; how many trades were covered; and what further extension of these facilities is proposed;

(2) how many applicants are waiting for admission to vocational training centres; and how many applications have been refused to date on the grounds of unsuitability or ineligibility.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

On 8th April, 1946, the latest date for which figures are available, 38 Government training centres and 150 technical and commercial colleges were providing training under the Vocational Training Scheme to 10,461 trainees in 71 occupations. As regards extension of the facilities I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend's reply to the hon. and gallant Member for Lewes (Major Beamish) on 16th April last.
