HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c170W
84. Mr. T. Brown

asked the Secretary of State for War what number of excavators, or other machines, now surplus in his Department, can be used for the purpose of expediting the building of houses so badly needed and if he will take the required steps to release these machines at the earliest date in order that they may be put into use.

Mr. Bellenger:

All machines of this kind which are in urgent demand for civil purposes and which are surplus to Army requirements are declared to the Ministry of Supply as soon as they become surplus. The only surplus machines which are still Army property are a relatively small number (including 17 excavators) which are at the moment in process of being declared to the Ministry of Supply for disposal. Their subsequent disposal is a matter for that Department.
