HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c191W
133. Mr. W. J. Brown

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the decision to lift the Essential Work Order in the engineering industry has been applied to some factories operated by Messrs. British Thomson-Houston, but not in respect of others; and whether he will make a statement on this matter.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

A number of undertakings which were de-scheduled on or about 4th May and one to be de-scheduled on or about 15th May are engaged in industries to which notices of withdrawal from the Essential Work Orders has been given. Our present information is that four British Thomson-Houston factories which are still scheduled are engaged in industries to which no such notice has been given but my right hon. Friend is having the circumstances of each case investigated.
