asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that the development of the supply of electric power to rural areas is still held up owing to the lack of poles; and if there has been any improvement in the supply position since the beginning of March.

Mr. Shinwell:

The answer to the first part is "Yes, Sir." The answer to the second part is "No, Sir," but steps have been taken to improve the position. In this connection I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade to the hon. and gallant Member for East Grinstead (Colonel Clarke) on 17th April.
