HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 cc177-8W
105. Mr. Renton

asked the Minister of Works the cost ex-factory of a temporary aluminium house; what is the price charged to a local authority for buying such a house; and how much of the difference between the cost ex-factory and the price paid by the local authority is represented by charges made by Government departments.

Mr. Tomlinson:

Prices for manufacturing temporary aluminium houses have not yet been fixed. Local authorities do not buy temporary houses; all temporary houses are provided by the Government and housing authorities pay an agreed sum annually to the Minister of Health while the houses remain in their possession. It is estimated that the charges made by Government Departments will be about two per cent. of the total cost.
