HC Deb 09 May 1946 vol 422 cc113-4W
8. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that fowls, chickens and ducks are being caused unnecessary pain, by having their mouths slit and being left swinging until the blood drains from them and they slowly bleed to death, details of which have been sent to him; and whether he will take steps to prevent cruel practices of this nature.

Mr. Oliver:

The provision in the Protection of Animals Act making it an offence to cause any unnecessary suffering applies to fowls as to other animals; and both the police and the officers of the R.S.P.C.A. are ready to take action whenever any specific information is given to them about cases of cruelty or suspected cruelty.
