HC Deb 08 May 1946 vol 422 cc111-2W
Sir W. Darlinǵ

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware of the disparity between the pay of permanent naval trooping staffs as compared with military and R.A.F. trooping staffs employed in similar capacities; and if he will take steps to correct it.

Mr. Duǵdale:

I am not clear what disparities the hon. Member has in mind. There are now no naval officers or men employed as permanent staffs in troopships The Naval staffs formerly employed on such duties in troopships received Naval pay and allowances under Naval regulations. These rates of pay and allowances differ at a number of points from those of the Army and Royal Air Force owing to differences between the respective pay codes. It is not practicable to ensure that in all circumstances and at all times officers and men of all three Services employed on the same or analogous duties receive precisely the same remuneration, though the new pay codes which come into force on 1st July next mark an advance in this direction.
