HC Deb 08 May 1946 vol 422 c92W
70. Mr. Spence

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the cost of Kent grown cauliflowers is 27s. 7d. per cwt. at Aberdeen and that the maximum permitted wholesale selling price in Aberdeen is 27s. 6d. per cwt.; and what action he intends to take to adjust prices of these vegetables.

Sir B. Smith:

Under the provisions of the Green Vegetables Order, 1945, the maximum price at which cauliflower may be sold by secondary wholesale at Aberdeen during the period 2nd March to 2nd June, 1946, is 34s. 3d. per cwt. trimmed and 26s. 3d. per cwt. untrimmed. Aberdeen traders are able to obtain supplies at this time of the year from Lincolnshire and will shortly be able to get them from Yorkshire. I am advised that the carriage allowance provided for in the Order should be sufficient to leave a reasonable margin to the trader, but I am looking further into the matter.
