asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is aware of the fact that there is a long delay before the exchange at the War Office answers a telephone call; and if he will take steps to remedy this.

Mr. Burke:

Service at this private branch exchange is provided by Post Office telephonists. As in the case of the public exchanges, the difficulties which arise are due mainly to the shortage of experienced operating staff; but everything possible is being done, by recruiting and training, to secure a more efficient and satisfactory service.
