HC Deb 07 May 1946 vol 422 c82W
Sir W. Smiles

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if, after the stranding of the "George Town Victory," he will now arrange for the buoys between Donaghadee and the Copeland Island to be replaced.

Mr. Dugdale:

Since the revocation of Defence Regulation No. 44, the Admiralty has ceased to be responsible for the establishment of navigational aids. The responsible authorities in the area concerned are the Irish Lights Commissioners. I understand that the buoys will be replaced shortly. The s.s. "George Town Victory" grounded while on a northerly course in a position some 20 miles south of that occupied by these buoys before the war. She could not, therefore, have made use of them had they been in place.
