asked the Minister of Labour if universities may apply for the release in Class B of ballotees who will have worked three years in the mines by 1st September, 1946; and what steps he is taking to notify these students of the procedure to be followed.

Application for the release of students who have completed three years' employment in the mines by 1st September, 1946, may be made by their universities if they fulfil the conditions laid down in the statement my right hon. Friend made at the end of Questions on Tuesday, 30th April. The students concerned will be advised when the time comes to apply to the National Service Officer for permission to leave their employment.
