HC Deb 06 May 1946 vol 422 c52W
100. Mr. Shurmer

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that there are two million pairs of men's short socks in the shops, valued at £300,000, which traders are unable to dispose of on coupon value; and if he will consider making these men's short austerity socks coupon free.

Mr. Belcher:

I have been informed of this position which is being kept under review. Some sales are, however, still taking place and production of long socks is still short of rationed demand.
