HC Deb 06 May 1946 vol 422 c62W
Mr. Paton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the figures for Scotland, for each of the years from 1920 to 1945, of murders known to the police; of persons indicted and brought to trial for murder; of persons found guilty of murder; of persons executed or reprieved; of persons during whose trial the charge was reduced to culpable homicide; the number found insane in bar of trial or at time of act; and the number assoilzied.

Mr. Westwood:

The figures available in respect of sentences for culpable homicide do not distinguish the cases where the original charge was murder. The remaining particulars required are set out in the following table:

Year. Number of cases of murder made known to the police.§ Number of persons called for Trail. Number convicted of murder. Found insane in Bar of Trial. Found insane at time of Act. Acquitted or charge withdrawn. Executed. Reprieved.
