§ 72. Mr. Dumpletonasked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what steps have been taken to utilise the waters of the rivers Okavango and Chobe and to bring extra land in Bechuanaland under cultivation and grazing.
§ Mr. Parker:Much work has been done in recent years in clearing river channels in this part of the Bechuanaland Protectorate, and useful results have been obtained. The High Commissioner is at present considering the possibility of further irrigation in this region. It is hoped to allocate to water development a substantial part of the funds which are being made available to the territory under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act.
