HC Deb 20 March 1946 vol 420 cc366-7W
71. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Minister of Food what is the present policy of the Government with regard to the importation of flour and wheat grain respectively; and what efforts are made to endeavour to import grain rather than flour.

Dr. Summerskill

The importation of wheat and flour into the United Kingdom is governed by the fact that home pro- duction of both commodities is insufficient to meet consumer needs. As much wheat as possible is imported, having regard to the quantity of home produced wheat available and to the production capacity of flour mills in the United Kingdom.
