§ Mr. A. Lewisasked the Minister of Agriculture what particular steps he proposes to take to extend the production of 142W food, especially the acreage under wheat, in view of the present food shortage.
§ Mr. T. Williams:The general food production objectives of the Government were outlined in my speeches during the Debates in this House on 15th February and 18th June. As already announced, a minimum target of 2½ million acres of wheat has been set for the 1947 harvest to be secured by directions where necessary, and as I announced on Friday, 12th July, certain adjustments will be made in the price of wheat harvested next year. I hope that appreciably more than this minimum acreage will in fact be grown in the United Kingdom.
