HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 cc376-7W
Major N. Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to be able to derequisition the property at 36 George Street, Dumfries, at present used as headquarters of the N.F.S., for which purpose it is quite unsuited.

Mr. Westwood

The premises at 36 George Street, Dumfries, are used for the accommodation of whole-time members of the National Fire Service, who are attached to the adjoining peacetime station where the accommodation is only sufficient for two persons. The property was formerly occupied by a Bridge Club which is at present occupying alternative accommodation from which I understand they have been asked to remove. Efforts have been made to find alternative accommodation for the National Fire Service, but these so far have not been successful and I regret that it is not possible to say when the property can be vacated.
