HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c364W
Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for War why the route of the dispersal vehicles operating between Strensall and York has, since 15th February, been changed from Camp Lane and the Malton to York main road to the road through the village of Huntington; and if he is aware that danger will result to the children who live on the latter route which runs through a thickly populated area and is a road unsuitable for fast military traffic.

Mr. Lawson

One-way traffic for War Department vehicles was imposed on the Towthorpe-Haslebush road at the request of the Ministry of War Transport to reduce damage to this road and it was arranged by the War Department that vehicles travelling from York to Strensall should go by way of Huntington. All War Department vehicles are restricted to 20 miles per hour on part of the route including Huntington village, and arrangements have been made for adequate police supervision at all times.
