HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 c282W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Health if he will allow private builders to build houses to let at the same building cost as those built by local authorities in the same vicinity, provided the houses are of similar quality and equipment.

Mr. Bevan:

The limits within which licences may be granted by local authorities will usually enable this to be done, but if any difficulty arises in a particular case of this kind, I should be prepared to consider it when the local authority desire to issue a licence.

Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Health the number of houses for which licences have been given to be erected by private enterprise and also by the public authorities, since he has been in charge of the Department.

Mr. Bevan:

I would ask the hon. Member to await the housing progress report which will contain particulars of houses for which licences have been given as well as of houses to be built by local authorities.
