HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 c280W
Mr. Viant

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction at present existent among members of the Metropolitan Police due to the inadequate payment offered for overtime made necessary owing to a shortage of manpower; and what steps are being taken to remove the cause for such dissatisfaction.

Mr. Ede:

After consultation with the Police Council I have decided to increase the overtime rates to 3s. and 3s. 6d. an hour for male constables and sergeants respectively with proportionate increases for women constables and sergeants, and to make some other modifications in the regulations relating to overtime which will operate to the benefit of the men and women concerned. The necessary amendments to the Police Regulations will be issued at an early date.
