asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, before the loan negotiations with the U.S.A. were completed, any estimate was made of the amount of food, drink and tobacco which might be obtained from countries of the overseas Empire; or whether any request was sent to such countries that they should supply such an estimate.

Mr. Dalton:

Yes, Sir. Such estimates were made.
