HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 cc301-2W
Mr. Martin Lindsay

asked the Secretary of State for War the approximate strength of the armed forces now in this country of Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland and Norway, respectively; why they have not yet returned to their own countries; and when does he expect this to take place.

Mr. Bellenger

Some of the members of Allied Armed Forces in this country are here to attend courses as part of the military assistance being provided for various Allies to assist them in forming their postwar Armed Forces. Others are being mobilised before their departure for the Far East. The remainder are members of embassy staffs or military missions. The duration of their stay in this country depends on the particular purpose for which they are here.

The approximate strengths in the United Kingdom of the Armed Forces of the countries concerned at the latest available dates are:

Officers and Men
Belgian 2,915
Danish 60
Dutch 5,379
French. 3,271
Norwegian 806
