HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 c300W
Lieutenant W. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Information the approximate weekly circulation of publications issued by the U.S.S.R. in this country, together with the weekly circulation of British publications in the U.S.S.R.; and the reason for any disparity between these figures.

Mr. E. J. Williams:

Paper has been made available to the Soviet Embassy in London for 12,000 copies per issue of the daily "Soviet News" and 75,000 per issue of the "Soviet Weekly." The British Embassy in Moscow publish weekly 50,000 copies of the "British Ally." Formal requests have been made to the Russian authorities for permission to raise the circulation of the "British Ally" to 75,000 copies, but this has so far been refused.
