HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 c155W
Colonel Stoddart-Scott

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that there is a shortage of deep X-ray therapy apparatus in this country; and that apparatus imported from the U.S.A. is subject to an import duty; and if he will remove the duty so that apparatus needed for the treatment of cancer can be purchased more cheaply.

Mr. Belcher

I understand that there is at present a shortage of the apparatus referred to by the hon. and gallant Member, particularly of certain components. If an application for exemption from duty in a particular case is made to the Board of Trade, we will consider very carefully whether we can recommend my right hon. Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to grant the exemption.
