HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 c161W
32. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Transport if his attention has been drawn to the dangers caused by the traffic problem in Bicester, Oxfordshire; if he will take steps to improve these conditions; and if adequate parking spaces will be provided.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Traffic difficulties are always likely to arise where part of a trunk road consists of inadequate town streets, as at Bicester. My right hon. Friend proposes, as soon as practicable, to construct a roundabout at the junction of trunk road A.41 and the Oxford-Buckingham road, and he will also give consideration to the need for a by-pass. In addition a system of one-way working for traffic is being examined. The duty of providing adequate parking places rests with the local authorities and in a recent circular they were reminded of the need to plan on a generous scale.
