HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 cc160-1W
25. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the new centre refuges at the junction of Brompton Road, Beauchamp Place corner, which are considerably higher and block the motorist's view of the traffic lights; whether this innovation was made after consultation with his Road Traffic Safety Committee; and if these tall refuges are to be part of the standing equipment for London.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

My right hon. Friend has accepted the recommendation of the Departmental Committee on Traffic Signs that bollards on refuges should not be more than 4 ft. above road level except when a specially large "Keep Left" sign is authorised when 4 ft. 6 in. is appropriate, and he has advised highway authorities accordingly. At the junction to which the hon. Member refers there is some obstruction of the traffic lights and my right hon. Friend will consider with the Kensington Borough Council what improvements can be made.
