HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 cc162-3W
26. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Transport whether the Shipbuilding Advisory Committee has prepared plans for the future of the industry, to be introduced once the war time losses have been replaced.

Mr. Barnes

The committee is engaged on this task. Fortunately, for the time being the industry is busy.

27. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Transport what steps he is taking to prevent shipowners from placing orders for new ships and ship repairs in foreign yards.

Mr. Barnes

I have no evidence to support the hon. Member's suggestion that United Kingdom owners are placing such orders abroad in preference to our own yards. No special action on my part in this matter is required.
