HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 cc161-2W
12. Dr. Comyns

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the inconvenience caused to the public by the cancellation, without notice, of the 6.25 p.m. train from North Woolwich to Stratford on several occasions recently; and if he will take steps to ensure that where further cancellations are necessary reasonable notice thereof shall be given to the travelling public.

Mr. Barnes

I regret that on eight recent occasions the shortage of serviceable locomotives has made it necessary to divert the locomotive of this train to maintain other services, cancellation of which would have caused still greater inconvenience Blackboard notices are exhibited as soon as it is decided that the train must be cancelled, but on occasions when, until shortly before the starting time, it has appeared possible to run the train, the notice has necessarily been short. The next train is the 6.41 p.m.
