HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 cc163-4W
48. Colonel Ropner

asked the Minister of Agriculture what changes are contemplated in the composition and functions of the Agriculture Improvements Council following the establishment of the Agricultural Advisory Service.

Mr. T. Williams

Under its present terms of reference the Agricultural Improvement Council is competent to advise generally, and does in fact do so, as to the lines on which a policy designed to raise technical standards of production can best be carried out. Its members comprise leading fanners, horticulturists and scientists, and the head of the National Agricultural Advisory Service is himself a member. Changes in composition and functions are accordingly not required to enable the Council to continue the close cooperation with the N.A.A.S. which already exists.
