§ 55. Mr. Gammansasked the Undersecretary of State for Dominion Affairs if, in view of the labour shortage in this country, the figures of emigrants laid down under the Anglo-Australian Immigration Agreement of April, 1946, still hold good; and for what numbers it is expected that passages can be provided in 1947.
§ Mr. M. StewartI have been asked to reply. In view of the conditional nature of the assisted migration arrangements, no definite figures were laid down in the agreements made with the Australian Government. The number of passages to be provided when the schemes are operative will be contingent upon the outcome of negotiations now being conducted with the shipping interests.
