HC Deb 04 December 1946 vol 431 cc84-5W
Mr. Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that food production in Malaya is being seriously affected by wild pigs; that constant applications have been made to him to supply 12-bore ammunition to eradicate them; and when does he expect that sufficient supplies will be available.

Mr. Creech Jones

I am aware that the depredations of wild pigs are affecting the production of food in Malaya. It is estimated that 200,000 rounds of ammunition are required for dealing with this pest. The supply position of cartridges is difficult, but 50,000 are already in course of shipment to Malaya and further supplies are receiving special attention; the remaining needs will, it is hoped, very soon be met.
