HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 cc8-9W
56. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Under secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether there is an up-to-date geological survey of Newfoundland.

Mr. M. Stewart

I have been asked to reply. On the establishment of the Com mission of Government in 1934, steps were taken to revive the Geological Survey of the Island. A small but fully qualified staff was engaged, and the work of the survey has proceeded actively since that date. Field work has been devoted principally to investigations in economic geology designed to foster the mining industry, and a series of bulletins has been issued, the purpose of which is to provide a scientific foundation for mineral exploration.
