HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c293W
94. Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for War how many applications have been received from Service personnel to bring dogs from overseas under the Government scheme; if any have been refused for lack of facilities to house them; and if any have been prevented from being brought to this country because of lack of transport.

Mr. Lawson:

Two thousand three hundred and ninety-seven applications for Service licences have been received. Four hundred and eighty licences have been issued up to date. The number of licences which can be issued is limited by the kennel accommodation available. As regards the remainder of the Question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Henley (Sir G. Fox) on 2nd April. I should point out that Service personnel may import dogs under an ordinary Ministry of Agriculture and Board of Trade licence and the Services scheme is only intended to supplement the normal method of importing dogs.
