HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc292-3W
93. Lord Willouģhby de Eresby

asked the Secretary of State for War whether any decision has yet been reached as regards the service pay of members of the Polish Paratroop Brigade who were taken prisoner at Arnhem; and why officers and other ranks of the Polish Paratroop Brigade did not receive pay for the period of their imprisonment on the same basis as the officers and other ranks of the British Airborne Division.

Mr. Lawson:

The emoluments of the Polish land forces under British Command are paid by the Polish military authorities, from funds made available by the British Government, but they are governed by Polish regulations These regulations do not necessarily conform in all respects to those of the British Army. I understand, however, that the Polish military authorities are now making arrangements to issue arrears of pay for periods of captivity to officers and other ranks taken prisoners of war while serving in the Polish land forces under British Command, subject to conditions similar to those operating in the British Army.
