HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c307W
Commander Maitland

asked the Minister of Works on how many days during the Parliamentary week ended Friday, 5th April, were the furnaces for centrally heating the Palace of Westminster alight, and how much fuel was used.

Mr. Tomlinson:

The boilers in the Palace of Westminster supply steam for cooking and for sewage pumps as well as for central heating, and sufficient pressure to meet the demand was maintained on every day during the week ended Friday, 5th April. The amount of coal used during this period was 40 tons, as compared with 70 tons a week during cold weather.
