HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c279W
26. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power it he is aware that householders who fail to draw their allocation of coal, for any reason at the set period, cannot carry this coal order through to the next allocation; and if he will take steps to rectify this injustice.

Mr. Shinwell:

The available coal supplies are not sufficient to provide for every consumer the maximum quantity allowed under the restrictions. I regret, therefore, that it is not possible to carry over to a later period any deficiencies in deliveries in earlier restriction periods. If a consumer has in any period real need of more than the quantity allowed under the restriction in force at the time he should apply to the local fuel overseer in the normal way.
