HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc291-2W
90. Mr. W. Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for War why certain companies of the Pioneer Corps consisting of Spaniards recruited to fight for the Allies are being sent to Italy to be demobilised.

Mr. Bellenģer:

The companies referred to include men of many different nationalities, although there are a certain number of Spaniards among them. These men enlisted outside the United Kingdom. They are not therefore eligible for demobilisation in this country. Although they are being sent to Italy in the first instance this is primarily a matter of administrative convenience and as and when individuals become due for release every effort will be made to send them from there to whichever country they wish to go.

99. Lieut.-Colonel Price-White

asked the Secretary of State for War if, as members of His Majesty's Forces on release leave are subject to disciplinary action, such members of the Forces will be entitled to additional pay in respect of annual service increments of pay they qualify for during their period of release leave.

Mr. Bellenģer:

No, Sir. To facilitate the arrangements for the payment of men on release leave and to avoid any delays occurring, the rates of pay both for officers and other ranks are fixed at the rate admissible at the beginning of their leave and are not subject to any change during leave either upwards or downwards
