§ 74. Mr. Beattieasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will terminate the Residence in Northern Ireland (Restrictions) Order, 1942, dated 4th December, 1942, made by him under Paragraph 2AA of Regulation 18 and Regulation 88 of the Defence (General) Regulations, 1939, No. 2501, as this imposes hardship on the movement of Irish men and women within thei own country.
§ Mr. Ede:No, Sir. As was stated at the time of the making of this Order by the then Home Secretary, one of the objects in view was that the power of control over newcomers who had come into Northern Ireland during the war might be used after the war for the purpose of giving preference in the labour market to demobilised men from Northern Ireland who had joined His Majesty's Forces and thus facilitating their reinstatement in employment.
