HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 c237W
Mr. Viant

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the technique for performing vaccination laid down as correct by the D. M.S. in a special note to every medical officer in India in 1942; what are the standards used for interpreting the result of vaccination; and what is laid clown as the official test of efficient vaccination.

Mr. A. Henderson:

The special note of 1942 lays down that vaccination should be performed by two scarifications ¾" in length at least 1" apart. The standard for interpreting results has followed closely War Office Medical Bulletin of November, 1943, and has recently been altered to conform to revised methods laid down by the War Office in February, 1946. The success of the vaccination depends on the potency of the lymph and the cleansing of the arm.
