HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 cc163-4W
116. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that on 24th March at 5.47 p.m. in full daylight, the street lights in Fulham Road, S.W., had been turned on; and what action he intends to take to prevent future similar waste of fuel.

Mr. Shinwell:

Some of the lamps in the Fulham Road are switched on by hand. To ensure that all these lamps are alight by sunset it is necessary, with the inadequate labour available, to switch on some of the lamps some time before sunset. I can assure the hon. Member that my Department is exercising the utmost vigilance in preventing any form of fuel wastage.
